David C. Deal’s “Transformations” – Album Art Project

Gtrans

Progressive rock with all the sophistication of classical music. Do you see it?

Having heard the evolution of some of David C. Deal’s recordings that eventually comprised Transformations, I consider it an honor to have been put to the task of creating the six-panel digipak album artwork of the full feature album. David had originally hired another artist to create an album mock-up during the final months of Transformations’ production, which although the final product looks and feels drastically different, proved to be a valuable visual inspiring factor.

Over the course of a few weeks, I continually listened to the Transformations recordings in their beta stages while poring over my own drafts and outlines of the artwork. By the end of a six week period, and many revisions, Transformations was finished. After an agonizing (but comparatively short) industry turn around time of about fourteen days, Transformations was finally in our hands. I feel especially proud to have had this opportunity on account of not only an outstanding autobiographical work, but also on account of some of the outstanding musicians who I consider friends. This is the second album of David’s that I have had the privilege of creating the album art for.

Below is the inside spread of Transformations. The inside right is the reverse side of the front cover, the inside center the reverse of the back cover, and the inside right the reverse of the extra panel. The inside right folds inward left, followed by the inside left folding to the right to close the package.
TESTIMONIALS :
Great artwork! Most musicians do not understand the significance of good artwork! Thanks!

OH YEAH!!!! The packaging is PROFESSIONAL….SUPER!!! I couldn’t believe how nice it was. It’s the best “indie” CD packaging I’ve ever gotten, and as good as any pro artist’s as well.

Below are detailed schematics of the album art. The album was pressed in a six panel digipak format. Below is the outer spread of the album with the template layers outlining the front cover, back cover, inside panel one, and both outer spines. From the perspective of the back cover, the extra panel (inside panel one, left) folds inward to the right, and the front cover folds inward to the left, covering the extra panel, thus presenting a front and back package.
